From March 2026, the Socialist Party will be campaigning as Solidarity – the socialist alternative.
Our social media presence, website, publications and banners on demonstrations will reflect this.
In this era of genocidal, ecocidal capitalism, and the fascist threat emanating from the same, solidarity as a concept and a practice is more needed than ever.
“They have taken untold millions that they never toiled to earn,
But without our brain and muscle not a single wheel can turn.
We can break their haughty power, gain our freedom when we learn
That the union makes us strong.”
The concept of solidarity has its roots in the proud tradition of the international socialist and labour movement, which we situate ourselves within, exemplified in this prescient lyric from 1915 US labour movement song, “Solidarity Forever”.
Solidarity – actively standing up to protect each other as workers, as young people, as women, as people of colour, as the disabled, as the queer community, as renters, as all marginalised and hurt by a system that upholds the rule of billionaire bigots – is an absolute prerequisite to building an effective challenge to that system.
In campaigning as Solidarity – the socialist alternative, we also indicate our commitment to working with others in the trade union, feminist, queer, student and Palestine solidarity movements, including to build new political representation for a genuinely left and anti-capitalist position in a large socialist party that could really help organise resistance and an alternative to the political establishment.
Within any such movements, we will be building a revolutionary Marxist alternative – one that is rooted in international solidarity, struggle of the exploited and oppressed, and the socialist alternative, worldwide. Join us today.
