Petition: Develop Damastown as a new social & affordable community

Solidarity - The Left Alternative have come up with a ambitious, positive proposal to develop 1,135 social & affordable homes in Damastown, Mulhuddart to begin to resolve the housing crisis. Fingal has 22% of the population of Dublin, but 35% of the homeless population - we need action now!

Our proposal contains 835 houses and 300 apartments. Nearly 80 four beds, 413 three beds, 550 two beds and nearly 100 one bed units.

50% will be ring-fenced for social housing and the other 50% will be available on an Affordable Mortgage Scheme.

RcgjbisuqpuHMAi-800x450-noPad.jpgRather than part-privatise this last remaining publicly owned land bank in Dublin 15, we want Fingal to develop these homes for families, not developer profits.

We want this development to be funded from Fingal's capital budget and investment from the Department of the Environment & the Housing Agency.

When will the government realize that local councils need to be given the power to DIRECT build social and affordable housing on COUNCIL OWNED land? Successive Irish governments have declined to do so because they choose to continually prop up their property developer mates who get cheap land and massive profits – the losers in this are the Irish people.
